DHA Energy Supply Company is Pakistan’s first private distribution and supplier-of-last-resort licensee — building, owning and operating the network that lights DHA City Karachi. Licensed by NEPRA, energising from 1 October 2026.
First private entity in Pakistan licensed for both electricity distribution and supply of last resort.
DHA Energy Supply Company (Private) Limited is a subsidiary of DHA City Karachi, established to secure an independent and reliable supply of electricity for the city’s residents, businesses and institutions. With no conventional distribution network reaching the site, the company pursued its own licences from 2017 onward.
In July 2026, NEPRA granted DESCO parallel Distribution and Supplier-of-Last-Resort licences — the first such grant to a privately owned entity under Pakistan’s Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market framework — together with approval to supply solar-generated power. The regulator found the company’s financial and technical capability sufficient, with grid stations, transmission lines and a distribution network already established in DHA City.
DESCO develops and operates its own distribution network inside DHA City — grid stations, transmission lines and a modern distribution system, built where no national-grid or K-Electric infrastructure reaches.
Under its SoLR licence, DESCO is bound to deliver uninterrupted electricity to every eligible consumer in its territory, without discrimination — and to step in if any competitive supplier fails.
Beside K-Electric, the first company in Pakistan to hold both electricity distribution and solar power supply approvals — clearing the way for solar and other approved sources to feed the city’s network.
DHA City Karachi sits roughly 56 km up the M-9 Motorway from Karachi. Lucky Cement’s plant adjoins its north-east corner across the motorway, and its 6 MW feeds straight into DESCO’s grid station. With no link to the national grid or the K-Electric network, the territory is served from within.
DESCO is the first company in Pakistan licensed to supply solar-generated power alongside conventional distribution. Bars indicate programme stage, not installed capacity.
